Welcome to LodgingGuide's hospitality industry listings for the Santiago area.
Centered about an hour's drive from the Pacific Ocean beaches of Vina del Mar on the west, and the ski resorts of the Andes Mountains in the east, and about 1,000 miles from the tip of the Southern Hemisphere, lies Santiago in the heart of Chile, perhaps the most contemporary town in South America, yet with a characteristic Spanish checkerboard layout preserved from its 16th century origins. Santiago was founded at the foot of Santa Lucia Hill, which now has become the center of the city that has grown around it. Surrounded by the vineyards of Maipo Valley, whose product is preferred by an increasing number of gourmets to that of France and California, Santiago's restaurants serve a fresh seafood, meat and vegetable cuisine perfectly married to the Chilean grape, as do the smaller family restaurants dotting the hilly green countryside. Next door to Vina del Mar is Valparaiso, one of the largest international seaports, from which Chile exports superior produce, and receives goods from all over the world. The Victoria, a Chilean type of horse-drawn carriage, affords an excellent overview of this coastal area, which remains pleasantly warm year round.
